New Look!
Greetings! Please pardon our dust while we are in the process of updating our website to be more user-friendly. Thanks.
The primary purpose of this automotive program is to prepare students for employment and/or specialized training in the automotive industry. The program focuses on broad, transferable skills and stresses understanding and demonstration of elements of the Automotive Industry.
With the agreement from Broward College, students enrolled in the automotive program will receive college credit and high school credit as part of the vocational dual enrollment program. Students will then matriculate to Broward Community College to complete their Master technician Certification.
The main goal of the 4 year automotive course at Parkway Academy is to educate students in each of 4 ASE Categories so that they will be able to pass the ASE Certification test at the end of each course. the courses will be as follows:
Parkway Academy along with SFATDA and BC provides many learning activities, on the job training opportunities, and exposure to the automotive industry. Students are able to attend the Miami and Fort Lauderdale Car Shows on a regular basis as well as volunteer.
In November of 2007, a luncheon was hosted by SFADTA to introduce automotive students and Service Managers from dealerships that are members of South Florida Auto/Truck Dealer Association. The luncheon was held in the lobby of the newly refurbished SFATDA headquarters located in the same building as Parkway Academy. The purpose of the luncheon was to introduce the local SFATDA dealers to the automotive students and to Parkway Academy. Many SFATDA dealers were not familiar with the fact that SFATDA owned the charter for a high school in the area that's main purpose was to produce technicians capable of coming out of high school and going straight into the dealerships. Parkway Academy’s aim is to familiarize the dealerships with our program and establish local dealerships for the students to work at while attending Parkway Academy.
The most important key to the success of this program is that students are able to be employed at local dealerships as helpers or apprentices to Master Technicians in order to obtain correct and appropriate hands-on experience.
Parkway Academy automotive program will receive ASE Certification in April of 2008.
